ELDERCOUNCIL - a land based outdoor intensive
“Last year in June 2021,
21 one of us soulfully reveled in 3 days/nights of Council gatherings in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
Gene and I are ready to offer it again - this time for 4 nights in 2022. Carol K
The best part was being with 21 people dedicated to similar things as I am. You both created a great container—it brought out the best. R
I am exploring my ignorance of nature and looking to enhance my openness to what needs I can address with others for our planet. I also dream of being able to communicate more clearly the deep feelings I have for experience in the natural world, especially to my grandchildren to help encourage their curiosity and care for others and our incredible home planet and universe. D
The most satisfying aspect of the weekend, for me, was the time alone on the land. It is what I love – to be out in nature with time for reflection and writing – and it aligns with my personal
spiritual practices. The facilitation was an excellent blend of large group, small group, and alone time. I especially appreciated the long stretches of time out on the land. K
I loved the time by myself swinging in my hammock by the bend in the creek and encountering a moose there. M
The solo times brought me into deep contact with nature’s soul mirrors …the subject of Death, brought some powerful moments. It was good to hear people voice their fears and concerns around end-of-life issues. This aspect of elderhood could be a whole council in itself! J
Maybe my favorite moments were the drumming and dancing towards the end. C
The retreat encouraged me to go into this next chapter of my life with a vision. The vision is not fully formulated yet, but I am working on it and that is part of the path. E ”

Come! It is time again to be face-to-face, Zoom-free.
Together in the Great Circle of lush green meadows, meandering stream, towering pines, and majestic mountain peaks. If you are on a life-long quest to grow into your true eldership – Join us!
a Circle and Council Gathering
Carol Kortsch, a Courage & Renewal trained facilitator,
Gene Dilworth of Wild Heart Center for Nature & Psyche and a lead guide at Animas Valley Institute,
weaving together a collaborative Circle at
Hummingbird Center: a transformational living community on sacred land near Cleveland, New Mexico. (Driving time from Santa Fe – 1.75 hours and Albuquerque – 2.5 hours) The mission of this 25-year-old intergenerational community is to provide in-depth learning experiences with this exquisite land as a master teacher. The property includes a large meeting yurt, outdoor dining tent, and your choice of shared indoor rooms, cabin, yurt, or personal solitude in tenting by the river.
Why convene as a Council of Elders?
The word ‘Elder’ has held countless profound meanings for global cultures, religious traditions, and local communities throughout the ages.
What does it mean for you now, in this tumultuous season of change to grow into an authentic elder?
How is your soul guiding you to take your place as a local/global elder?
What wisdom are you learning in the crucible of pandemic that clarifies your path as a communal leader?
In what ways has Nature in your local watershed been teaching you wisdom to offer the next generations?
What gifts, what questions will you bring to offer to this Council, to the listening land of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of northern New Mexico?
This is a communal circle where each of us will come prepared to offer our gifts and questions on behalf of the urgent global call to serve the human village and the Earth communities we are part of. As much time as possible will be spent outdoors in large group, small group, and in a solitary quest to re-inhabit our unique essence in relationship with the wild bounty and the suffering of this planet.
